History Detectives -The Mystery of the lost property/Petra the Rose City : Two complete power-point History lessons for pupils in KS1. Lesson one begins with a role play scenario asking pupils to solve a lost property mystery. The learning includes developing historical investigation skills: gathering information from photographic source material, developing historical vocabulary, asking questions and analysing and drawing conclusions to build a character profile. Lesson two builds upon the skills used in the previous lesson using the archaeological world heritage site, the ‘Rose City’ of Petra as a stimulus. Learning focuses on developing understanding of facts, guesses and questions. Included is a simple Petra information sheet which can be printed for pupil use in the lesson. Lesson slides include simple paired tasks to encourage discussion and collaboration and written activities to develop recording skills.

Playtime: A series of four complete power-point lessons (52 slides) for pupils in KS1. Each lesson focuses on playtime and toys from the past including Roman, Elizabethan, Victorian times and present day. The lessons are interactive and include opportunities for the pupils to work in pairs or a small group to extract information from sources (photographs, paintings, video clips) ask questions, compare and record findings. Children will learn to play a range of playground games, small group games and role play games from each of the periods studied which they can transfer to their own playtime in school and teach their friends. Opportunities to extend the lessons with ideas for creative cross curricular links eg How to make a Victorian Thalmatrope optical illusion.. There is an initial assessment in lesson one, recap in the following lessons and a simple final assessment in lesson four.

Pupils cut out the images and descriptions and sequence the story onto a storyboard template. There are three templates attached which support differentiation and reading levels. HA template is numbered only and pupils order the story into the numbered boxes. MA is differentiated using key words from the main text in the numbered boxes. Includes a bullet point reminder of the rules for writing historical stories and spaces for pupils to develop character description, setting and ideas for the structure of their story. Great to use following a History writing lesson or drama. Can also be used with most History topics : Norman Castles, Explorers, Travel, Halloween, Romans, Egypt, Saxon Britain etc.

Powerpoint Poem about the colour ORANGE. EYFS/KS1. Simple rhyming acrostic poem which I wrote myself to introduce a topic on colour recognition, help pupils learn the colour orange and identify orange objects around them. Lots of ‘orange’ photos and an easy to follow acrostic pattern. Links with cross curricular topics on ‘Colour’, ‘Rainbows’, ‘All around me’ and Literacy ‘Poetry’.

This power-point can be used as a full lesson or as a guideline for active learning for a whole day focus on The Gunpowder Plot. It consists of a range of interactive cross curricular activities which begin using pupil knowledge of Bonfire Night and develop into the historical account of the Gunpowder Plot. Learning includes: Understanding the link between Bonfire Night celebrations and the Gunpowder Plot, developing historical vocabulary, and using historical documents to extract and interpret information. The power-point promotes collaboration, discussion and information sharing in a historical, geographical and mathematical context.

KS1 & 2 Set of 5 Easter instructions. Learning Objectives: To read and follow the instructions accurately and in the correct sequence/order. To recognise the features of instructions (What materials are needed, method, using an imperative (bossy) verb, sequencing actions and numbering each stage in order, using diagrams and pictures). Five DT activities for pupils to read, understand and make. The activities include : Paste egg bunny, Easter basket, spring daffodil, Easter nests, pompom chick. Use as an introduction to work on instructions to encourage pupils to observe the features in a fun way or as a format to help pupils scaffold their own instructional writing.

KS2 Geographical features : Bridges of Britain fact sheets. Includes 10 iconic ,interesting and very different types of British Bridges including Clifton Suspension, Tyne Bridge, Forth Bridge, Tees Transporter, Gateshead Millenneum Bridge, Tower Bridge, Severn Bridge, Menai Suspension, Tarr Steps Bridge and Infinity Bridge. Each fact sheet includes information on the different structure of the bridges, simple dimensions, brief historical information and interesting related facts. The layout is accessible and easy to use to extract information or make comparisons between the bridges. Useful to link to DT topic on bridges or non-fiction writing reference material.

Ks1 & 2 shark ID mat. Photos of 16 sharks for pupils to use as part of a research activity or game. Research on laptops and ipads common features of sharks using the mat as a stimulus. Put a shark image on the whiteboard and ask the children to identify the shark and its features as part of a game. Play ' shark bingo'. Print and laminate 2 pairs of images of each shark and play 'shark snap' or ' shark pairs' in a small group.

KS2 English/Drama 36 slide power-point lesson about the Willow Pattern story which includes pupil resources and a lesson plan (slides 29-36). This lesson can be used as a follow up to Lesson 1 (also for sale!) or as a discrete lesson. The lesson start focuses on the poem, vocabulary and meaning of the story linked to corresponding images. The main body of the lesson concentrates on developing key words to describe characters, learning and practising Chinese rituals and greetings for use in the small group drama activity and using drama freeze frames or frozen pictures to depict scenes from the story. There is opportunity for the groups to develop dialogue and use the rituals in their own role play scenarios. At the end of the lesson pupils are encouraged to perform their role play scenario and receive feedback against specific criteria. A KS1 power-point of 40 slides about the life of Florence Nightingale and her impact on nursing, hospitals and hygiene today. The slides are supported ith key questions for pupils based upon simple data and information gathering and prior knowledge about hospitals, germs and infection control. There is a link to a Youtube clip about the life of Florence Nightingale and a range of cross curricular activities to develop knowledge of the Crimea War and the impact of Florence’s work. The final slides focus on the features of a leaflet and include a template of a leaflet scaffolded for the pupils to write about ‘Hand washing’ and share with their families. This power-point can be used as a discrete lesson or to dip into to support teaching about the different aspects of Florence Nightingale’s life and work. The slides are structured to maximise paired and small group talk and activities.

KS1 Years 1, 2 and 3 - A series of 5 consecutive power-point lessons about the sights of London (66 slides). Lesson 1 introduces London using the Union Flag as a starting point with learning focusing on the countries of Britain and the location of London. The pupils are encouraged to use a Project Book to record their journey through each lesson. Lesson 2 introduces some simple facts about London and focuses on Buckingham Palace. Pupils will create a simple comparative table which enables them to compare the Palace with their own homes, pose questions and draw conclusions. The lesson can be developed into Art/DT to design a flag. Lesson 3 focuses on the Changing of the Guard with a link to a short YouTube clip followed by a physical group activity. Lesson 4 recognition of London landmarks and a Maths measurement activity with trundle wheels linked to Big Ben. There is also a short activity to develop understanding of Roman Numerals. Lesson 5 London Transport and a Maths activity to devise the quickest routes on the Tube. This lesson includes an end of unit assessment to assess pupil knowledge through a task set by the Prime Minister. Each lesson offers clear steps for pupils to work in partners, small groups and individually. Each slide can be printed separately to enable pupils to have access to information tables and data. At the beginning of each lesson there is a short recap activity to assess learning from the previous lesson.

KS1 & 2 RE : A Christening Mystery. A powerpoint lesson beginning with twelve clues of images, a sound bite and questions which build up into a Christening celebration. Pupils work in small groups of three and four and are guided through the problem solving slides via key questions and discussion/written tasks to try to help Lewis solve which celebration has taken place using the clues from the mystery box found in his attic. Pupils are encouraged to learn key vocabulary (font, Holy water, pew, aisle etc) and discuss the celebration possibilities giving reasons for their thoughts as the clues emerge. Slides 20-23 offer simple factual information about Christenings and include a painting of ‘The Baptism of Christ’ (Da Vinci) and images of stained glass windows. The final slide offers a simple photocopiable activity for pupils to complete on what three wishes they would give to a baby and an opportunity to write about/find out about how they were named – a class or homework follow up task.

A simple scaffold to aid pupil writing. A scaffold of a poem which can be adapted by theme to support cross curricular writing or to develop a specific aspect of English such as alliteration, similes. Can be modified to provide challenge or support with the aid of dictionaries, Thesaurus and word banks. Very useful as a starter or plenary session.

There is a comprehensive lesson plan for teacher use at the end of the powerpoint on slides 14 and 15. The lesson is created around the story of the Willow Pattern and the image of the plate to generate ideas and collaborative discussion. There are opportunities for pupils to read the poem, extend vocabulary, discuss the characters and watch a short clip of the story on Youtube before creating their own five box storyboard linked to their own collected vocabulary from the lesson. This is the first in a series of three lessons on the Willow Pattern theme.
